eIF4A2 is a 407 amino acid ATP-dependent RNA helicase belonging to the DEAD box helicase family. It contains one helicase ATP-binding domain and a helicase C-terminal domain. eIF4A2, a subunit of the eIF4F complex, acts as a protein-synthesis initiation factor and thus plays an important role in the binding of mRNA to the 43S pre-initiation complex of ribosomes.
