2-Methoxyphenol acts as an expectorant. It is used as an anti-oxidant as well as an anti-skinning agent for paints. It serves as a precursor to flavorants such as eugenol and vanillin. Further, it is used as an intermediate in the chemical synthesis of active pharmaceuticals, flavoring and perfumery products. In addition to this, it is also used as an indicator in chemical reactions that produce oxygen.

Aplicaciones
El 2-metoxifenol actúa como expectorante. Se utiliza como antioxidante y como agente para evitar el despellejamiento de pinturas. Sirve como precursor de aromas como el eugenol y la vainillina. Además, se utiliza como intermediario en la síntesis química de productos farmacéuticos activos, aromatizantes y productos de perfumería. Además de esto, también se utiliza como indicador en reacciones químicas que producen oxígeno.

Solubilidad
Miscible con tetracloruro de carbono, alcohol, cloroformo, éter, aceites, ácido acético glacial y solución de hidróxido sódico. Ligeramente miscible con agua y éter de petróleo.

Sensible al aire y a la luz. Almacenar en lugar fresco. Mantenga el recipiente bien cerrado en un lugar seco y bien ventilado. Incompatible con agentes oxidantes fuertes y bases fuertes.
