Descripción
Thymol is used as a preservative in halothane. It acts as an anesthetic, antiseptic in mouth wash, stabilizer in pharmaceutical preparations. It inhibits the growth and lactate production as well as reduces the uptake of cellular glucose within the bacteria. It is an active ingredient in toothpastes like euthymol. It is involved to control varroa mites and prevent fermentation and the growth of mold in bee colonies.

El timol se utiliza como conservante en halotano. Actúa como anestésico, antiséptico en el lavado bucal, estabilizador en preparaciones farmacéuticas. Inhibe el crecimiento y la producción de lactato, así como reduce la captación de glucosa celular en las bacterias. Es un ingrediente activo en dentífricos como el eutimol. Se utiliza en el control de los ácaros del género Varroa y evita la fermentación y el crecimiento de moho en las colonias de abejas.
Solubilidad
Ligeramente soluble en agua. Soluble en cloroformo, alcohol y éter.
