Description
β-Estradiol is the major estrogen secreted by the premenopausal ovary. It acts as an estrogenic hormone receptor (ER) agonist and activator of PI 3-kinase. Further, it is used in the treatment of infertility in women, prostate cancer and breast cancer. It is also employed as an agent of stimulating female puberty induction, as in the treatment of delayed puberty caused by hypogonadism or Turner's syndrome. In addition to this, it is used as part of the hormone replacement therapy for transgender women.

El β-estradiol es el principal estrógeno secretado por el ovario en su fase premenopáusica. Actúa como agonista del receptor hormonal estrogénico (ER) y como activador del fosfoinositol (PI) 3-quinasa. Se utiliza para tratar la infertilidad en las mujeres, el cáncer de próstata y el cáncer de mama. También se emplea como estimulante en la inducción de la pubertad femenina, por ejemplo, en el tratamiento de la pubertad tardía causada por el hipogonadismo o el síndrome de Turner. Además de esto, se utiliza como parte de la terapia de reemplazo hormonal para mujeres transgénero.
Solubilidad
Soluble en dimetilsulfóxido, etanol, agua, solución salina tamponada con fosfato, dimetilformamida, acetona, dioxano e hidróxidos alcalinos. Ligeramente soluble en aceites vegetales.
