Sulfur trioxide-trimethylamine complex acts as a reagent for sulfonation and sulfamation reactions. It is used as a reactant for the synthesis of sulfate-conjugated resveratrol metabolites and chitooligosaccharides. It is used in association with dodecyl thioglycopyranoside, which acts as a surfactant for enantiomeric separation. Further, it acts as a nucleophile used for the preparation of alfa-tosyloxy ketones.

Aplicaciones
El complejo de trióxido de azufre-trimetilamina actúa como reactivo para las reacciones de sulfonación y sulfamación. Se utiliza como reactivo para la síntesis de metabolitos y quitooligosacáridos del resveratrol conjugados con sulfato. Se usa junto con dodecil tioglicopiranósido que actúa como surfactante para la separación enantiomerica. Además, actúa como un nucleófilo utilizado para la preparación de las cetonas alfa-tosiloxi.

Solubilidad
Soluble en agua caliente y etanol. Ligeramente soluble en dimetilsulfóxido y metanol. Insoluble en agua.
