Cerium(III) chloride heptahydrate is used in the preparation of allylsilanes from esters. It is used as a reducing agent in organic synthesis in place of sodium borohydride. In Luche reaction, carvone gives selectively allylic alcohol.

Aplicaciones
El cloruro de cerio(III) heptahidrato se utiliza en la preparación de alilsilanos a partir de ésteres. Se utiliza como agente reductor en la síntesis orgánica en lugar del borohidruro de sodio. En la reducción de Luche, la carvona produce alcohol alílico selectivamente.

Solubilidad
Soluble en alcohol y acetona. Ligeramente soluble en tetrahidrofurano. Insoluble en agua fría.

Notas
Sensible al aire. Higroscópico. Incompatible con ácidos fuertes y agentes oxidantes fuertes.
