(Trimethylsilyl)diazomethane is used as a methylating agent in organic chemistry. It is utilized in Gas Chromatography- Mass-Spectrometry (GC-MS) for the analysis of various carboxylic compounds. It is involved as a reagent in the Doyle-Kirmse reaction with allyl sulfides and allyl amines. It is considered and used as a less-explosive replacement fordiazomethane. It is also used as a reactant for Unnatural alfa-amino acid derivatives containing gem-bisphosphonates through Michael addition reaction, imidazolo[2,1-b]benzothiazole derivatives and aigialomycin D analogues.

Aplicaciones
El (trimetilsilil)diazometano se utiliza como agente metilante en química orgánica. Se utiliza en cromatografía de gases-espectrometría de masas (GC-MS) para el análisis de varios compuestos carboxílicos. Participa como reactivo en la reacción de Doyle-Kirmse con alilsulfuros y alilaminas. Se considera y utiliza como reemplazo menos explosivo el fordiazometano. También se utiliza como reactante para derivados no naturales de alfaaminoácido que contienen gemabisfosfonatos a través de la reacción de adición de Michael, derivados de imidazol[2,1-b]benzotiazol y análogos de la aigialomicina D.

Solubilidad
Inmiscible con agua. Miscible con disolventes orgánicos.

Notas
El (trimetilsilil)diazometano (TMSD) en disolventes alcohólicos y en condiciones ácidas o básicas puede llevar a la formación de diazometano. El TMSD está siendo revisado por el Programa Toxicológico Nacional por posibles peligros de inhalación. Incompatible con agentes oxidantes, cloro, flúor y percloratos.
