Trimethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate act as a avmethylating agent and activates C-X multiple bonds. It is involved in the esterification of polyfunctional carboxylic acids. It acts as a catalyst in the polymerization of cyclic sulfides and ethers. Further, it is used in Beckmann rearrangement of oximes.

Aplicaciones
El trimetiloxonio tetrafluoroborato actúa como agente de metilatación y activa los enlaces múltiples C-X. Participa en la esterificación de ácidos carboxílicos polifuncionales. Actúa como catalizador en la polimerización de sulfuros y éteres cíclicos. Además, se utiliza en el reordenamiento de oximas de Beckmann.

Solubilidad
Soluble en nitrobenceno, nitrometano, cloroformo, acetona caliente, dióxido de azufre líquido. Ligeramente soluble en diclorometano. Insoluble en disolventes orgánicos comunes.

Notas
Higroscópico. Sensible a la humedad. Almacenar en lugar fresco. Incompatible con bases y agentes oxidantes fuertes.
