tert-Butyl nitrite is employed as a reagent for diazotization and nitrosation of alcohols, thiols, amines and cycloalkanes. It plays an important role in photocatalyzed conversion of aryl and heteroarylamines to selenides. It finds application in the preparation of aryl azides from aryl amines. It is also useful for radical multifunctionalization reactions of aliphatic alkenes and source of nitric oxide.

Aplicación
El nitrito de terc-butilo se emplea como reactivo para la diazotización y nitrosación de alcoholes, tioles, aminas y cicloalcanos. Desempeña un papel importante en la conversión fotocatalizada de arilo y heteroarilaminas a seleniuros. Participa en la preparación de azidas de arilo a partir de aminas de arilo. También es útil para las reacciones multifuncionales radicalarias de alquenos alifáticos y es fuente de óxido nítrico.

Solubilidad
Miscible con éter dietílico, cloroformo, alcohol y disulfuro de carbono. Ligeramente miscible con agua. No miscible con glicerol.

Notas
Sensible a la luz. Almacenar en un lugar fresco. Incompatible con agentes reductores fuertes, metales en polvo y ácidos fuertes.
