tert-Butyl ethyl ether is used as an oxygenate gasoline additive oxygenate during its production from crude oil. It is used as an extractant in human urine by using single-walled carbon nanotubes as an adsorbent. It plays an important role as a fuel component in petrol to enhance its octane rating.

Aplicaciones
El éter etílico de terc-butilo se utiliza como oxigenado aditivo de gasolina oxigenada durante su producción a partir de crudo. Se utiliza como agente de extracción en la orina humana mediante el uso de nanotubos de carbono de pared simple como adsorbente. Desempeña una importante función como componente de combustible en la gasolina mejorando su octanaje.

Solubilidad
Miscible con alcohol y éter etílico. Ligeramente miscible con agua.

Notas
Incompatible con agentes oxidantes fuertes, neopreno, n-butilo y uretano. Puede reaccionar con el aire para formar peróxidos.
