It inhibits protein synthesis by binding to 30S ribosomal subunit, which induces the misreading of the genetic code. It is involved in the initiation of translation of DNA, thereby results in death for a susceptible bacterium. Further, it controls bacterial and fungal diseases of certain fruit, vegetables, seed, ornamental crops and algae in ornamental ponds and aquaria
