The bicarbonate buffering system is important in many different cellular processes. It is also used in the formation of acid in the lumen on the stomach. Used to neutralize the pH of the chyme leaving the stomach and entering the small intestine. It is also used to maintain pH in serum samples.

Aplicaciones
