Pyranine is used as a fluorescent pH indicator with emission change in the physiological pH range. It acts as a dye in optical sensor applications. It finds application as a coloring agent and biological stain. It is also used in the measurement of pH of intracellular fluid in the cells.

Aplicaciones
La piranina se utiliza como indicador de pH fluorescente con cambio de emisión en el rango de pH fisiológico. Actúa como colorante en aplicaciones de sensores ópticos. Se utiliza como agente colorante y tinción biológica. También se emplea en la medición del pH del fluido intracelular de las células.

Solubilidad
Soluble en agua y ácido acético glacial.
