Baking powder, medicine (cathartic), component of Fehling's solution, silvering mirrors.Potassium sodium L-tartrate tetrahydrate is used in the process of silvering mirrors. It is active ingredient in the Fehiling’s solution and Nylander’s test involved in the determination of reducing sugars. It is utilized to break up emulsion in organic synthesis as well as a common precipitant in protein crystallography. As a Biuret reagent, it is used to measure the protein concentration. Furthermore, it is used as laxative and is also used in food industry.

Aplicaciones
El tetrahidrato de L-tartrato de sodio potásico se utiliza en el polvo para hornear, en medicina (catártica), como componente de la solución de Fehling, en el plateado de espejos y en el proceso propio proceso de plateado. Es un ingrediente activo en la solución de Fehiling y en la prueba de Nilander que interviene en la determinación de azúcares reductores. También se usa para romper emulsiones en síntesis orgánica y como un precipitado común en la cristalografía de proteínas. Como reactivo de Biuret, se utiliza para medir la concentración de proteínas. Además, sirve de laxante y se emplea en el sector de la alimentación.

Solubilidad
Soluble en agua. Insoluble en alcohol.

Notas
Pierde agua de cristalización a 140 °. Inestable por encima de los 225 °. Incompatible con agentes oxidantes fuertes.
