La N-alilltiourea es un inhibidor de nitrificación utilizado en el estudio sobre la transformación de diclofenaco, naproxeno y bisoprolol en condiciones aerobias y anaerobias. También se utiliza en medicina para minimizar el tejido cicatricial con el fin de luchar contra un tipo de dermatitis. Además, inhibe el crecimiento de tumores trasplantados en ratones. Actúa como agente quelante. Además, se utiliza en cosméticos, conservantes y en la síntesis orgánica.

Soluble en agua y alcohol. Ligeramente soluble en éter dietílico. Insoluble en benceno.
