Mucic acid is used to replace tartaric acid in self-rising flour or fizzies. It is also used as a precursor of adipic acid en route to nylon by a rhenium-catalyzed deoxydehydration reaction. It replaces potassium bitartrate in baking powder and also used for manufacture of granular effervescing salts.

Aplicaciones
El ácido múcico se emplea para reemplazar el ácido tartárico en harinas leudantes o bebidas efervescentes. También se utiliza como precursor del ácido adípico en la ruta de síntesis al nailon mediante una reacción de desoxideshidratación catalizada por renio. Sustituye al bitartrato de potasio en la levadura en polvo y también se utiliza para la fabricación de sales efervescentes granulares.

Solubilidad
Soluble en agua.

Notas
Mantener el recipiente bien sellado. Almacénese en un lugar fresco y seco en recipientes herméticos. Incompatible con agentes oxidantes.
