Las mezclas de metílico octanoato-etanol constituyen el combustible sustituto biodiesel-bioetanol y la cinética de su oxidación se ha estudiado experimentalmente en un reactor de agitación por chorro. Se ha estudiado la desoxigenación del octanoato de metilo sobre el Pt soportado por alúmina tanto en la fase de vapor en un reactor de flujo como en la fase líquida en un reactor de semi-lote. También se utiliza para fabricar otros productos químicos.
