Methanesulfinic acid sodium salt is used in the preparation of alkyl methyl sulfone and methyl bis(4-tolyl)sulfoniumtrifluoromethanesulfonate. It is also employed in the synthesis of two sulfonyl type reversible addition-fragmentation transfer (RAFT) agents such as benzyl methylsulfonyldithioformate and benzyl phenylsulfonyldithioformate.

Aplicaciones
La sal sódica de ácido metanesulfinico se utiliza en la preparación de sulfuro de metilo de alquilo y bis(4-tolil)sulfoniotrifluorometanosufonato. También se emplea en la síntesis de dos agentes reversibles de transferencia de adición-fragmentación (RAFT) de tipo sulfonilo, como el metilsulfonilditioformato de bencilo y el fenilsulfonilditioformato de bencilo.
