Aplicaciones
El malonato de isopropilideno es un importante reactivo en química sintética y participa en la formación de nuevos enlaces C-C, anillos, amidas, ésteres y ácidos. La presencia de grupos carbonilos en las posiciones C-4 y C-6 favorece las reacciones de alquilación y acilación debido a su naturaleza ácida. También se emplea como agente antimicrobiano. Se utiliza en la preparación de heterociclos 4-sustituidos por piridilo, indoles 2-sustituidos, isofraxidina y beta-keto lactonas macrocíclicas. Además, participa en la reacción de condensación de Knoevenagel con aldehídos.

Solubilidad
Soluble en agua. Ligeramente soluble en etanol y cloroformo.

Notas
Almacenar en un lugar fresco. Incompatible con agentes oxidantes fuertes.
