Aplicaciones
El ácido glicólico se utiliza para el acné y el tratamiento antiedad. También se emplea en la industria textil como agente de teñido y curtido. Se utiliza en polímeros de emulsión, disolventes y aditivos para tinta y pinturas. También es útil como intermediario para la síntesis orgánica como reacciones redox, esterificación y polimerización de cadena larga. Actúa como monómero en la preparación de ácido poliglicólico y otros copolímeros biocompatibles. Además, se utiliza como conservante y aromatizante en la síntesis orgánica. También se utiliza en adhesivos y plásticos.

Solubilidad
Soluble en agua, metanol, éter dietílico, acetona, ácido acético y acetato de etilo.
