Ethyl hydrogen malonate is used as a reactant for the preparation of tetramic acids through Dieckmann ring closure and organocatalytic decarboxylative Doebner-Knoevenagel reactions. It is involved in the acylation reactions and Knoevenagel condensation with aldehydes. It is also used in the preparation of gamma-lactones from olefins by intermolecular carbolactonization in presence of Mn(III) acetate as a catalyst.

Aplicaciones
El malonato de ácido de etilo se utiliza como reactante para la preparación de ácidos tetrámicos mediante el cierre de anillos de Dieckmann y las reacciones organocatalizadoras y descarboxilativas de Doebner-Knoevenagel. Participa en las reacciones de acilación y en la condensación de Knoevenagel con aldehídos. También se utiliza en la preparación de gamma-lactonas a partir de olefinas mediante la carbolactonización intermolecular en presencia de acetato de Mn(III) como catalizador.

Solubilidad
Miscible con agua, cloroformo y otros disolventes.
