Aplicaciones
El DMSO es un disolvente aprótico polar utilizado en reacciones químicas, en reacciones en cadena de la polimerasa y como agente de vitrificación crioprotector para la conservación de células, tejidos y órganos. El DMSO se utiliza en medios de congelación celular para proteger las células de lesiones mecánicas inducidas por el cristal de hielo. Se utiliza para el almacenamiento congelado de estirpes celulares de hibridomas y heteroploides primarias, subcultivadas y recombinantes, células madre embrionarias y células madre hematopoyéticas. El DMSO se utiliza con frecuencia en las combinaciones con suero fetal bovino o BSA.

Solubilidad
Soluble en agua, metanol, acetona, éter, benceno y cloroformo.

Notas
Filtrado al submicrómetro. Almacénelo a temperatura ambiente (de 15 a 30 °C) y deséquelo. Higroscópico.
