Diethoxymethylsilane is used in the preparation of N,N'-methylsilanediyl-bis-phthalimide by reacting with phthalimide. It is used as a reagent in the selective reduction of carbonyl compounds, hydorosilylation of alkenes, tandem reductive aldol reaction and rhodium-catalyszed silylcarbocyclization.

Aplicaciones
El dietoximetilsilano se utiliza en la preparación de N,N′-metilsilanodil-bis-ftalimida al reaccionar con la ftalimida. Se utiliza como reactivo en la reducción selectiva de compuestos carbonilos, la hidrosililación de alquenos, la reacción aldólica reductiva en tándem y la sililocarbociclización catalizada con rodio.

Solubilidad
Miscible con agua, 1,4-dioxano, tetrahidrofurano, acetonitrilo, diclorometano, cloroformo, dimetilsulfóxido, triamida hexametilfosfórica triamida y tolueno. Insoluble en éter dietílico y hexano.

Notas
Incompatiblecon agentes oxidantes, ácidos y bases.
