(±)-Citronellal is an active component of citronella oil. It is used as a flavoring agent, insect repellent, fragrance in soaps and detergents, and in personal care products like creams, lotions, and perfumes. It acts as a chemical intermediate for citronellol and hydroxycitronellal. Further, it is used to prepare 1-dibutylamino-3,7-dimethyl-oct-6-en-2-one by reacting with dibutylamine. In addition to this, it is utilized to inhibit the development of mechanical nociception induced by carrageenan (CG) and tumor necrosis factor-alfa.

Aplicaciones
El (+)-citronelal es un componente activo del aceite de la citronela. Se utiliza como agente aromatizante, repelente de insectos, fragancia en jabones y detergentes, y en productos de cuidado personal como cremas, lociones y perfumes. Actúa como intermedio químico para el citronellol y el hidroxicitronellal. Asimismo, se emplea para preparar 1-dibutilamino-3,7-dimetil-oct-6-en-2-ona en reacción con la dibutilamina. Además de esto, se utiliza para inhibir el desarrollo de la nocicepción mecánica inducida por carragenina (CG) y el factor de necrosis tumoral alfa.

Solubilidad
Ligeramente miscible con agua y etanol.

Almacenar en un lugar fresco. Mantenga el recipiente bien cerrado en un lugar seco y bien ventilado. Sensible a la humedad y a la luz. Incompatible con agentes oxidantes fuertes, ácidos fuertes y bases fuertes.
