Citraconic anhydride is used as a monomer for specialty unsaturated polyester resins. It is used to prepare bicyclic pyrrolidines, maleimides and co- and terpolymers. It is also used for the protection of N-terminal amino acids. Further, it is involved in the preparation of clothing ping acid and its amide. In addition to this, it is selectively used for the isolation of histidyl peptides.

Aplicaciones
El anhídrido citrónico se utiliza como monómero para resinas especiales de poliéster insaturadas. Se usa para preparar pirrolidinas bicíclicas, maleimidas y copolímeros y terpolímeros. También se utiliza para la protección de aminoácidos N-terminales. Además, participa en la preparación del ácido ping para ropa y su amida. Asimismo, se utiliza de forma selectiva para el aislamiento de péptidos de histidilo.
