It is an important raw material and intermediate used in organic synthesis, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and dye stuff. It is synthesis of chloromethanesulfonates and chloromethanesulfonamides. It is also used for conversion of alcohols into the inverted acetates, azides and nitriles, and rearrangement of carbon-carbon and carbon-oxygen bonds under mild conditions, and in electrophilic and radical reactions.
