Bromomethyl methyl ether is used as reagent for protection of OH groups as their methoxymethyl (MOM) ethers. It is used in enantiocontrolled synthesis of intermediate containing carbons 18 to 35 of the macrocyclic immunosuppressant FK-506. It was used in the synthesis of 1-methoxymethyl-4-tritylthio-2-azetidinone.

Aplicaciones
El éter metil bromometílico se utiliza como reactivo para la protección de gruposde OH como sus éteres de metoximetilo (MOM). Se usa en la síntesis enantiocontrolada de intermedios que contienen carbonos de 18 al 35 del inmunosupresor macrocíclico FK-506. Se utilizó en la síntesis de 1-metoximetil-4-tritiltio-2-azetidinona.

Solubilidad
Poco soluble en agua.
