Bromoethane is used in organic synthesis for the introduction of ethyl group. It is widely used as solvent, as an anesthetic in medicine and as a refrigerant. It is an important component of antiknock fluid in gasoline. It is also also used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals like vitamin A as well as in the manufacture of flame retardants.

El bromoetano se utiliza en la síntesis orgánica para la introducción del grupo etílico. Se utiliza ampliamente como disolvente, como anestésico en medicina y como refrigerante.
