5-Bromo-m-xylene is used in the preparation of substituted 2,2'-bis(diphenylphosphanylmethyl)-1,1'-binaphthyl derivatives. It is also used to prepare o-tolyl-3,5-xylyl ether by reacting with o-cresol. Further, it is an organic building block used in the synthesis of various chemicals as well as in the preparation of tri-o-tolylphosphine.

Aplicaciones
El 5-bromo-m-xileno se utiliza en la preparación de derivados sustituidos de 2,2′-bis(difenilfosfanilmetil)-1,1′-binaftil. También se utiliza para preparar éter o-tolil-3,5-xilílico por reacción con o-cresol. Además, es un compuesto básico orgánico utilizado en la síntesis de varios productos químicos, así como en la preparación de tri-o-tolilfosfina.
