3-Benzyl-5-(2-hydroxyethyl)-4-methylthiazolium chloride, aliphatic aldehydes undergo the acyloin condensation in the presence of this catalyst and mild base. It acts as a catalyst for the addition of aliphatic and heterocyclic aldehydes to α,β-unsaturated ketones, nitriles and esters.

Aplicaciones
El cloruro 3-bencil-5-(2-hidroxietil)-4-metiltiazolio, los aldehídos alifáticos experimentan un cambio en la condensación de aciloína en presencia de este catalizador y base suave. Actúa como catalizador para la adición de aldehídos alifáticos y heterocíclicos a α cetonas insaturadasβ, nitriles y ésteres.
