A chemical used in the preparation of inhibitors of mammalian carbonic anhydrase isoforms. It is also used in the preparation of quinoline tethered fluorescent carbon dots for regulated anticancer discovery. It is employed in the production of TB drugs, salicylic acid, amino stabilizer and developers. 3-Aminophenol has been used as a stabilizer of chlorine-containing thermoplastics, although its principal use is as an intermediate in the production of 4-amino-2-hydroxybenzoic acid this isomer is also employed as a hair colorant and as a coupler molecule in hair dyes.

Aplicaciones
Producto químico utilizado en la preparación de inhibidores de isoformas de anhidrasa carbónica de mamíferos. También se utiliza en la preparación de puntos de carbono fluorescentes unidos con quinolina para el descubrimiento de medicamentos contra el cáncer regulados. Se emplea en la producción de medicamentos contra la tuberculosis, ácido salicílico, estabilizadores de amino y desarrolladores. El 3-aminofenol se ha utilizado como estabilizador de termoplásticos que contienen cloro, aunque se usa principalmente como intermedio en la producción de ácido 4-amino-2-hidroxibenzoico. Este isómero también se emplea como colorante para el cabello y como molécula de acoplamiento en tintes para el cabello.

Solubilidad
Soluble en agua (35 mg/ml a 20 °C), éter, alcohol, alcohol amílico y benceno (ligeramente).
