2-Mercaptothiazoline, is used in the chain-lengthening of alkyl halides by trans-iodopropenylenation. 2-Mercaptothiazoline is an antithyroid agent that strongly reduces thyroid hormone levels. 2-Mercaptothiazoline is also used as an intermediate in the preparation of biologically active compounds. It is also used as a tool for highly selective chiral synthesis of penam- and carbapenam-type β-lactam antibiotics.

Aplicaciones
La 2-mercaptotiazolina se utiliza en el alargamiento de cadenas de haluros de alquilo mediante transyodopropenilenación. La 2-mercaptotiazolina es un agente antitiroideo que reduce fuertemente los niveles de hormona tiroidea. La 2-mercaptotiazolina también se utiliza como intermedio en la preparación de compuestos biológicamente activos. Asimismo, se usa como herramienta para la síntesis quiral altamente selectiva de antibióticos βlactámicos de tipo penem y carbapenem.

Solubilidad
Soluble en cloroformo y metanol. Ligeramente soluble en agua.
