Aplicaciones
El 2-mercaptobenzotiazol se utiliza para la detección del punto de equivalencia de una volumetría (complexometría) y para determinar la concentración en colorimetría. También se utiliza para la determinación fotométrica de oro, cadmio, cobre, plomo y paladio. Además, se utiliza como fluido para metalurgía, anticongelante, grasa, agente anticorrosivo y adhesivo. Actúa como producto antibacteriano y antifúngico. También se emplea en la industria del caucho como acelerador de la vulcanización. Inhibe la dopamina beta-hidroxilasa y la biocorrosión en sistemas de refrigeración, especialmente en la industria del papel. Además, se utiliza como conservante de madera y aditivo para caucho.

Solubilidad
Soluble en etanol, éter dietílico, benceno, tetracloruro de carbono, álcali y soluciones alcalinas. Ligeramente soluble en acetona, nafta y ácido acético glacial. Insoluble en agua y éter.

Sensible al aire. Incompatible con agentes oxidantes.
