2,5-Bis(5-tert-butyl-2-benzoxazolyl)thiophene is used as an optical brightener which converts UV light into visible light. It is also used as a fluorescent brightener for thermoplastic resins of polyvinyl chloride, acrylic resin, polyester fiber, paint, coating and printing ink. It is also useful in detecting the presence of thin-film electrical contact lubricants.

Aplicaciones
El 2,5-bis(5-terc-butil-2-benzoxazolil)tiofeno se utiliza como abrillantador óptico que convierte la luz UV en luz visible. También se utiliza como abrillantador fluorescente para resinas termoplásticas de cloruro de polivinilo, resina acrílica, fibra de poliéster, pintura, revestimiento y tinta de impresión. También es útil para detectar la presencia de lubricantes de contacto eléctrico de película fina.

Soluble en acetona y tolueno. Insoluble en agua.
