1-Octyne is widely used in organic reactions such as halogenation, hydration, oxidative cleavage, hydrogenation, hydrohalogenation, nitrile formation, polymerization and substitution reactions. It is used a precursor for the preparation of monohalogen substituted akenes or dihalogen substituted alkanes on treated with hydrogen halides.

Aplicaciones
El 1-octino se utiliza ampliamente en reacciones orgánicas como halogenación, hidratación, escisión oxidativa, hidrogenación, hidrohalogenación, formación de nitrilo, polimerización y reacciones de sustitución. Se usa como precursor para la preparación de aquenos monohalogenados sustituidos o alcanos dihalogenados sustituidos en tratados con haluros de hidrógeno.

Solubilidad
Miscible con alcohol, éter y otros disolventes orgánicos. No miscible con agua.
