1-Chloro-2-iodoethane is used as a mild electrophile for iodination of metallated species, as in the conversion of an ortho-lithiated benzyl ether to the corresponding ortho-iodide. It reacts with 5-hydroxy-[1,4]naphthoquinone, and obtain the 5-(2-chloro-ethoxy)-[1,4]naphthoquinone.

Aplicaciones
El 1-cloro-2-yodoetano se utiliza como un suave electrófilo para la yodación de especies metalladas, como en la conversión de un éter de bencilo orto-litiado al orto-yoduro correspondiente. Reacciona con la 5-hidroxi-[1,4]naftoquinona y obtiene la 5-(2-cloro-etoxi)-[1,4]naftoquinona.
