General Description
• Bupivacaine is a local anesthetic agent
• The compound acts by blocking sodium influx into neurons through intracellular binding at voltage-gated sodium channels
• Bupivacaine also inhibits NMDA receptors on nerve cells, resulting in reduced synaptic transmission
Application
• Bupivacaine can be used in the laboratory to study treatment of acute and chronic pain in a preclinical setting
• Bupivacaine is used as a local anesthetic in rodent surgery in laboratory settings
• Bupivacaine has been shown to activate the AMPKα/BDNF signaling pathway in spinal astrocytes
