Peptone is produced from porcine and/or bovine tissues. The tissues are digested enzymatically to create small peptides and then spray dried. It is used in culture media in bacteriology. The growth requirements of most non-fastidious organisms will be fulfilled by its range of amino acids, peptides and proteoses.
