Methyl 2-methyl-3-nitrobenzoate may be used in the synthesis of methyl indole-4-carboxylate, 5-aminoisoquinolin-1(2H)-one, 5-nitroisocoumarin and [2-(4-fluorophenyl)-1H-indol-4-yl]-1-pyrrolidinylmethanone. It may also be used in the preparation of substituted nitrostyrene benzoic acids, via reaction with aromatic aldehydes in the presence of DBU in DMSO; and 4-(hydroxymethyl)-1-tosylindole, via Batcho-Leimgruber modification of the Reissert indole synthesis.

Aplicaciones
El 2-metil-3-nitrobenzoato de metilo se puede usar en la síntesis de indol-4-carboxilato de metilo, 5-aminoisoquinolin-1(2H)-ona, 5-nitroisocoumarina y [2-(4-fluorofenil)-1H-indol-4-il]-1-pirrolidinilmetanona. También se puede utilizar en la preparación de ácidos benzoicos de nitroestireno sustituidos, mediante la reacción con aldehídos aromáticos en presencia de DBU en DMSO; e 4-(hidroximetil)-1-tosilindol, mediante la modificación de Leimgruber-Batcho de la síntesis de indol de Reissert.

Solubilidad
Soluble en metanol.

Notas
Estable en las condiciones de almacenamiento recomendadas. Incompatible con agentes oxidantes y con el calor.
