Descripción

Tri-n-butyl phosphate is used as a solvent for rare earth metals exaction and purification, and as a flame retardant component of aircraft hydraulic fluid. It is involved in the formation of stable hydrophobic complexes with some metals. It is also employed as a defoamer additive in cement casings for oil wells, as an anti-air entrainment additive for coatings and floor finishes and as a solvent in nuclear fuel processing. Further, it is used as a solvent in inks, synthetic resins, gums and adhesives. In addition, it is used as a plasticizer for cellulose esters like nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate.

Aplicaciones
El tri-n-butilo fosfato se utiliza como disolvente para la exacción y purificación de metales de tierras raras y como componente pirorretardante del fluido hidráulico de las aeronaves. Participa en la formación de complejos hidrófobos estables con algunos metales. También se emplea como aditivo antiespumante en las carcasas de cemento para pozos de petróleo, como aditivo antiaéreo para revestimientos y acabados de suelo, y como disolvente en el procesamiento de combustible nuclear. Además, se utiliza como disolvente en tintas, resinas sintéticas, gomas y adhesivos. También se utiliza como plastificador para ésteres de celulosa como la nitrocelulosa y el acetato de celulosa.

Solubilidad
Miscible con éter dietílico, benceno, disulfuro de carbono y etanol. Ligeramente miscible con agua.

Incompatibles con agentes oxidantes fuertes, bases fuertes y álcali.
